Our Clinical Approach to Chemoexfoliation

Our medical peel treatments are selected to manage conditions such as photodamage, acne, and hyperpigmentation with a controlled and predictable level of exfoliation.

We use specific, medically-certified chemical peel systems (such as Enerpeel®) which are designed to achieve dermal remodelling. The goal is a sustained therapeutic outcome. We combine these procedures with prescribed medical skincare (such as Tebiskin) to prepare the skin for treatment and support post-procedural healing.

We also offer other clinically-evidenced peel systems, such as the Obagi Blue Peel Radiance, which is a superficial peel designed to address textural and pigmentary irregularities with minimal downtime.

FAQs For Skin Peels

A medical chemical peel, or chemoexfoliation, is a procedure that uses a chemical solution, typically a type of acid, to induce controlled exfoliation of the skin’s outer layers. The depth of the peel (superficial, medium, or deep) is determined by the clinical indication and the specific dermatological condition being treated.

A medical chemical peel induces controlled chemoexfoliation, which initiates several therapeutic processes:

  • Dermal Remodelling: It stimulates fibroblast activity, leading to neocollagenesis (the production of new collagen). This improves the skin’s structural integrity and can help to manage skin laxity.
  • Management of Specific Conditions: The procedure is clinically indicated for managing conditions such as acne vulgaris, rhytids (wrinkles), certain types of atrophic scarring, and dyschromia (pigmentary irregularities).
  • Epidermal Turnover: It accelerates the removal of the stratum corneum (the outermost layer of dead skin cells).

The superficial peels may produce a light stinging/burning sensation at worst. The medium or deeper peels can be more uncomfortable but is quickly resolved when the peel solution is neutralised by the practitioner.

The post-procedure appearance of the skin varies depending on the depth of the peel. Common responses can include erythema (redness), mild oedema (swelling), and desquamation (peeling). Your practitioner will discuss the expected post-procedure effects and required aftercare for your specific treatment during your consultation. The daily use of a broad-spectrum, high-factor sunscreen is a mandatory part of post-peel care.

While the application of the peel solution is brief, a 45-minute appointment is typically scheduled. This allows for thorough skin preparation before the treatment and the application of post-procedure products and aftercare advice.

The number of treatments required depends on the diagnosed condition and the depth of the peel used. Some deeper peels are administered as a single treatment. More superficial peels typically require a course of several sessions to achieve the desired clinical outcome.
