Sun Damaged Skin treatment

What Is Sun Damaged skin?

Sun-damaged skin means different things to different patients but in general, it refers to the negative effects of either sun or sun beds. Specifically the UV radiation from either source. In short, changes to the skin’s appearance.
UV radiation damages the skin’s cellular DNA, eventually leading way to mutations that can accumulate over time. The damage disrupts the normal processes of skin repair and regeneration. The changes in the skin that could be classed as skin damage are listed below.

Sun Damaged Skin Treatments At Rejuvenating Solutions

IPL

This is a light-based treatment that targets pigmentation issues caused by sun damage. It works by heating and then breaking down melanin in the skin, aiming for a more even-out complexion. IPL treatments can also stimulate collagen production for a firmer skin appearance.

ENDYMED FSR

This treatment may be suitable for milder cases of sun damage (Endymed Intensif may be suggested for advanced signs). FSR aims to stimulate collagen production and promote skin renewal.

Dermal Needling

Also known as microneedling or collagen induction therapy, this treatment creates micro-injuries in the skin to stimulate collagen production. It can improve the appearance of sun damage, fine lines, and uneven texture. Microneedling is often combined with topical treatments if required for enhanced results.

Medical Skin Peels

Chemical peels use acids to exfoliate damaged skin cells, reduce pigmentation, and improve skin texture. Depending on the extent of the sun damage, they can be superficial, medium, or deep. Peels can effectively treat sun spots, fine lines, and uneven skin tone.

Endymed Intensif

The device combines radiofrequency energy with microneeding to treat advanced skin conditions, such as skin laxity, deep wrinkles, and sun damage. Endymed FSR may be suggested for milder cases.

Environ Skin Care

Environ products such as the Youth EssentiA range contain vitamins useful for sun damage, along with peptides and antioxidants.

Obagi Medical Skin Care

These medical-grade skincare lines, such as Obagi Nu-Derm FX, contain potent ingredients like vitamins A, C, and E, as well as antioxidants and peptides. They work to reduce hyperpigmentation, fine lines, and uneven skin tone caused by sun damage while promoting collagen production.

Signs of sun damaged skin

1. Wrinkles and Lines:

The UV radiation will break down the collagen and elastin fibres in the skin. Premature ageing in the form of wrinkles and lines will follow after prolonged exposure.

2. Uneven Pigmentation

The skin may show signs of various patches and spots of pigmentation. These may include freckles, solar lentigines and other types of darkened areas of skin.

3. Actinic keratosis

This will present itself as rough or scaly patches, sometimes bumps, that develop on sun-exposed areas of the skin. These could be classed as pre-cancerous growths.

4. Leathery Skin

Dry, rough, leathery skin. As the sun dries out the exposed areas of skin, moisture and natural oils are depleted, moving on to skin damage.

5. Spider Veins

These will be shown by the appearance of thin red or purple dilated blood vessels near the skin’s surface. They are called spider veins as they appear to be similar to a spider’s web at times. The medical name for them is telangiectasia, but the terms red veins or thread veins are used interchangeably.

6. Melasma

Melasma is known to be triggered or exacerbated by sun exposure. Hormonal changes also play a part. It’s a form of skin pigmentation characterised by darkened patches, usually seen on the face.

7. Skin Cancer

Prolonged UV exposure increases the risk of developing various types of skin cancer, including basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, and melanoma

8. Sunburn

Redness, pain or soreness, faking and blistering are all signs of skin damage after excessive sun exposure.
