Understanding Hyperhidrosis

Understanding Hyperhidrosis The primary symptom of hyperhidrosis is the visible, excessive sweating that is not necessarily linked to heat or physical exertion. This condition commonly affects specific areas, including:
  • Underarms (axillary hyperhidrosis)
  • Palms of the hands (palmar hyperhidrosis)
  • Soles of the feet (plantar hyperhidrosis)
  • Face and scalp
Hyperhidrosis can be primary (occurring without a known underlying cause, usually starting in childhood or adolescence, and sometimes later), or secondary (resulting from another medical condition or medication). At Rejuvenating Solutions, our treatments primarily address primary focal hyperhidrosis, particularly in the underarm area.

Your Hyperhidrosis Consultation

During your consultation appointment, Susie will discuss your symptoms in detail, including how excessive sweating affects you and which areas are involved. Your medical history is reviewed to ensure neurotoxin treatment is appropriate for you.

The treatment procedure will be fully explained, what results you might expect, any potential side effects, and the associated costs. This is your opportunity to ask any questions you may have about managing your hyperhidrosis with this treatment. We will work with you to determine if this is the right approach for your specific symptoms.

The Treatment Procedure

The treatment for hyperhidrosis using neurotoxin injections is straightforward and relatively quick.

First, the skin in the treatment area (usually the underarms) is cleansed. We may mark out the specific injection points to ensure precise application. Then, using a very fine needle,  multiple small injections of the neurotoxin solution are administered directly into the skin across the affected area. The entire procedure for treating the underarms typically takes about 20 to 30 minutes to complete. Most patients report only minimal discomfort during the injections, often described as a slight stinging sensation.

Aftercare and Considerations

You can usually return to your normal daily activities straight away. However, we generally advise:

  • Avoiding strenuous exercise or activities that cause excessive heat for the first 24 hours.
  • Avoiding applying deodorant or antiperspirant for 12-24 hours, or as advised.

Potential side effects are typically mild and temporary. They can include:

  • Minor bruising at the injection sites.
  • Slight swelling or tenderness in the treated area.

These effects usually resolve within a few days. Your suitability for treatment and any specific contraindications will have been thoroughly discussed during your consultation. Serious side effects are uncommon when treatment is performed by a qualified practitioner.
