Why Sculptra?

Sculptra is a fantastic treatment that has recently gained popularity and recognition among medical professionals. Scrulpra is an FDA-approved injectable therapy to restore lost collagen and reduce facial wrinkles. This innovative treatment utilises a biocompatible, biodegradable, synthetic material called poly-L-lactic acid, which stimulates collagen growth over time to improve facial volume and overall appearance. Sculptra gives natural-looking results and is an excellent alternative to surgical procedures.

What is Sculptra?

Sculptra is classed as a bio-stimulator and volumiser. It is made from a substance called poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA). PLLA has a long history (over 20 years) of safe use in the body and is derived from sustainable sources such as sugar cane or corn starch. It works to send signals to the body to produce more collagen. This collagen production will make your skin smoother and firmer and make folds, making wrinkles less noticeable.Since its introduction in 1999, Sculptra has been used worldwide and is administered by trained specialists through a series of injections tailored to individual needs. Sculptra fills a wrinkle with tiny PLLA beads, which are gradually absorbed by the body as they biodegrade. As a result, new collagen may be produced at the injection site as these beads break down.

Benefits of Sculptra

  • Stimulates collagen production
  • Adds facial volume
  • Hypo-allergenic
  • Reduce the appearance of facial lines and wrinkles
  • It can smooth out skin texture
  • Natural-looking results
  • Longer lasting than similar treatments
  • A viable alternative to surgical procedures

How long does Sculptra last?

The benefits of Sculptra should continue for 2-3 years, but some patients report this to be longer.

What is the difference between Sculptra and dermal fillers?

They are different substances. Dermal fillers contain hyaluronic acid and Sculptra PLLA. Sculptra stimulates collagen, whereas dermal fillers add volume to even skin texture.

Should I consider Sculptra or dermal fillers?

This very much depends on your aesthetic goals, the area of concern, and the type of wrinkles you wish to treat. We will advise your best course of treatment after your consultation.

What happens during the Sculptra treatment?

A topical numbing cream is applied to the skin before thoroughly cleaning the area. The solution is injected beneath the skin and gently massaged to ensure even distribution. Sculptra also contains lidocaine for added comfort.

When will I see the results of the Sculptra treatment?

You may see some immediate results, but these are usually temporary. As collagen increases, results will become more noticeable, usually around 2-3 months. The results will continue to show as more collagen is produced in the coming months.

Is there any downtime?

You may experience a small amount of swelling and bruising post-treatment, but most patients resume their daily activities immediately following the treatment.
